Haute couture from Christian Dior

August 3rd, 2007

Despite of all grandness of the fashion show - from the venue, which was Versailles, and till presence of the most known supermodels – 60th Dior collection has been shown in a little bit melancholy atmosphere. John Galliano, having presented collection based on the works of the well-known artists and photographers, has paid an original tribute of respect to two masters of fashion: Christian Dior and designer Steven Robinson who died in April.
Celebrating of Dior House achievements began with recollection about the New Look collection of 1947 which has presented to the world a new silhouette - with “waspish” waist and a fluffy skirt - which was changed female wardrobe during the post war epoch. Galliano has presented these images by means of photographer works, which influenced Dior himself: Gisele Bundchen in a black suit and Raquel Zimmermann in a dress of ivory color, who opened the show, as if came from black-and-white Irving Penn’s photo-works.
One more, maybe, not so obvious theme has passed through all Galliano collection. For those who have been informed on the Spanish roots of the designer, flamenco and a number of silhouettes form Goya and Zurbaran pictures were quite obvious. Toward the end of the show Galliano has appeared in a suit of a matador.
